On April 2, actors Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Tabyana Ali of “General Hospital” were a part of an in-person fan event at Governor’s Comedy Club in New York.

An Emmy award-winning actor, Chavez plays Spencer Cassadine while Ali plays Trina Robinson on the hit ABC soap opera “General Hospital.” To their fans worldwide, they are known as the supercouple “Sprina.”

This event coincided with the recent 60th anniversary of “General Hospital.” “60 years, wow,” Chavez said. “That happened yesterday,” he enthused.

Both actors spoke about how they got started into the world of acting, and how it wasn’t always easy for them, yet adversity made them stronger, and it has helped mold them into the actors that they are today.

Chavez praised the three “talented” actors that played his on-screen father Nikolas Cassadine, which included Tyler Christopher (prior to his time on the show), as well as Marcus Coloma and Adam Huss (both of which he had the pleasure to work with).

Both performers shared that they are looking forward to being a part of the 2023 Nurses Ball on the show because this will be the first for either of them.

Chavez also expressed his love for the game chess; moreover, he noted that he loves working with veteran daytime actress Genie Francis as his on-screen grandmother, Laura. He also likes and respects the choices that her iconic character makes on the show.

The digital age

On being actors in the digital age, Ali said, “I don’t think I know any different.” “I would have loved to be in the ’90s,” she admitted. “From what I remember, it seemed nice to go to the Blockbuster stores. This is something I wish we had more of, when watching movies used to be a shared experience even though the streaming platforms are easy access and we love that.”

“There is something so fun, natural, and refreshing about the things that happen within your community and the things that you could share with each other, and go out and find something else,” Ali added.

“What is cool is that you know what everybody is watching now because people are posting about it on social media,” Chavez said. “Before, people gravitated to the channels and shows that they normally do. Now, there is more communication about what is in the moment and what people are really gravitating towards, and that’s an important message. Being on the same page about that is cool.”

“On the flip side of that, ‘General Hospital’ is on Hulu, and people that work during the day can watch it any time they want,” Chavez added.

Fans

Ali and Chavez concluded their show by thanking all of their dedicated fans for their constant love and support. “Thank you for your investment in your characters, your involvement and for caring,” Chavez said. “We owe our gratitude to each and every one of the fans. The fans mean so much to us,” Ali added.

“Tabyana and Nicholas have such a natural chemistry that is evident in their meet and greets. They have a genuine friendship that radiates with fans,” said “SprinaLove,” a dedicated fan and attendee at Governor’s.
