Review: Neil Diamond shines bright as a diamond on ‘America’ (Includes first-hand account)

The iconic singer-songwriter dedicated to performance, which was filmed live at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, to his grandmother who made the journey from Kiev almost a century ago. “America” is also featured on his upcoming Hot August Night III concert video and CD multi-disc set, which will be released on August 17, 2018.

“That little girl was my grandmother. She and her daughter, Rose, inspired me to achieve everything that I have achieved in my life,” he said. “Her courage will never be forgotten. It sings in every song I sing. This one is for her,” Diamond added, and he immediately a bold and brave rendition of “America.”

There was a feeling of nostalgia and patriotism in the venue. His vocals were expressive, harking and heartfelt. Backed by a whole live orchestra, they elevated this classic hit to a higher level; moreover, Diamond is a true song stylist.

The Verdict

Overall, Neil Diamond was able to shine bright like a “diamond” indeed on this performance of “America.” His voice was rumbling, and as powerful as ever. Diamond commanded the stage like no other, and is proof that his music will stand the test of time. This powerhouse rendition of “America” earned five out of five stars.
