Review: MisterWives opens for Thirty Seconds to Mars at MSG in New York (Includes first-hand account)

Although their set lasted approximately 35 minutes, it was quite remerakble. They kicked off their set with their latest radio single “Machine,” and it was followed by “Coloring Outside the Lines,” where lead singer Mandy Lee showcased her spitfire, sassy vocals (and whistle register). Equally stunning was the vivacious “Drummer Boy.”

One of the highlight songs of the night was Lee’s cover of “Dreams” from The Cranberries, which was soothing and poignant at the same time. MisterWives were able to tip their hat to the late but great Dolores O’Riordan.

“Oh Love” had infectious hooks, coupled with Lee’s powerhouse voice, while “Reflections” was more upbeat and a great deal of fun. They closed their brief but noteworthy set with “Our Own House,” where Lee displayed her crisp voice yet again, thus leaving their listeners wanting to hear more.

MisterWives is made up of Mandy Lee on lead vocals, William Hehir on drums, Etienne Bowler on drums, Marc Campbell on guitar, and Dr. Blum on keyboard, trumpet and accordion. They are worth seeing live whenever they play in town, and their music is catchy and impressive.

Their single “Machine” is available on iTunes.
