Stand-up comedian Mike Marino headlined The Comedy Chateau in North Hollywood, California, on August 5.
Michael Maloney hosted the show, and it featured such comedians as Marco Assante and Sean Kanan.
Marino is affectionately known as “New Jersey’s Bad Boy of Comedy,” and he informed the Los Angeles audience that he is jokingly “running for president in 2024.” He acknowledged that the world is in “crazy turmoil” right now.
He wittingly pointed out that he would make a great president for this country because he doesn’t tweet, because he is Italian. “Also, people don’t follow me, I follow them,” he said.
Marino noted that Italians and Latinos have many commonalities, and he joked that he would relocate the White House to another location if it were up to him (that way, nobody would be able to find it, so it wouldn’t pose a threat).
He shared that he would love to participate in the presidential debates on TV, and Marino revealed the clever strategies he would use to outsmart and beat his opponents.
In his personal life, his mom has been cooking meals each day for many people for the last 55 years, and he joked that she was responsible for “The Last Supper,” especially since each time she claimed that she will never cook another meal, hence it would be “the last supper.”
Marino stated his ways on how he would bring gas prices down to 32 cents a gallon again. (Let’s just say, this would involve some help from his friends in New Jersey).
He also shared his personal beliefs on kids getting “time outs” these days, and the 40 different kids of milk that are available today (in his day and age, he noted that there were only two kinds of milk: two percent and whole milk).
“The truth is always funny,” Marino said. “I love having fun, I can’t help it.” He went on to share a story how performing in Dubai was similar to performing in Palm Springs.
A downside of aging for him is that his body does not work as it used to anymore. He stated that he is on Lipitor, which he uses to treat cholesterol yet noted that the instructions don’t tell you are all the life-threatening side effects that can come with the medications.
“Back when I was younger, there was no such thing as a ‘recall’ on things,” he said. “You deal with it.”
He closed by poking fun at the new “Barbie” movie that came out, and he made his own New Jersey version of jokes that involved Ken and Barbie.
The Verdict
Overall, Mike Marino was hilarious at The Comedy Chateau in North Hollywood. There were some moments in his set, where the audience laughed to hard that they were almost in tears.
If one gets offended easily, then Mike Marino’s show is not for you. He was bold, unapologetic, and not afraid to speak his mind; that was what made his jokes timely and relevant. His headlining set garnered two thumbs up. Bravo.
