While DelGuidice also gets praises for his stellar covers of songs by such iconic artists as Billy Joel, Elton John, Chicago, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and Paul McCartney (among countless others), one thing he does not get as much credit for are his impressive original tunes, all of which deserve more than just a passing glance. “Romantic” is such a song! It deals with the subject matter of regret, and it is a tune about reflection, however, it comes from an optimistic standpoint, where the narrator sings about how he could have done things differently, in an effort to change his female lover’s mind.
There is a rawness and authenticity to the song’s conversational lyrics, which are filled with melancholy. At the same time, DelGuidice is not afraid to showcase his vulnerability as a singer-songwriter, and his vulnerability is the audience’s reward. His unique arrangement, featuring stringed instruments, was quite beautiful.
The Verdict
Overall, Mike DelGuidicine shines once again, this time in his own original song “Romantic,” which he performed live at Miller Place High School for the fire department’s fundraiser. He is pure heart and soul, in a controlled and polished vocal performance. “Romantic” garners an A rating.
