“Mulcahy’s,” DelGuidice shouted, prior to opening his set with the upbeat “We Didn’t Start The Fire,” which featured a killer electric guitar solo by Tommy Byrnes.
“How are you doing Mulcahy’s?” he asked. “Make some noise for Tommy Byrnes on guitar,” he stressed. He went on to dedicate “New York State of Mind” to all the Rangers and Islanders fans in the venue.
DelGuidice had the audience clapping along to the mid-tempo “My Life,” and it was followed by “Say Goodbye To Hollywood,” as yellow laser lights dimmed from the stage.
He went on to show his classic rock side by covering Aerosmith’s empowering “Dream On,” which featured his powerhouse pipes. “Are there any real Italians in the house?” DelGuidice asked, as he immediately broke into a superb rendition of “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant,” where his piano playing was hypnotic. Most impressive was the fact that he changed the final lyric to “I’ll meet you anytime you want in our Sicilian restaurant.”
“Keeping the Faith” was more laid-back and mellow, while “Miami 2017 (Seen The Lights Go Out On Broadway)” was infectious and fun. He went on to wish “Happy Holidays” for any audience members that are celebrating Passover.
DelGuidice paid homage to Led Zeppelin with his soaring version of “Whole Lotta Love,” which featured a neat drum solo. “Lullaby” was a fan request, and he went on to deliver a tender version of the song, as the Mulcahy’s stage was graced in green lights. It was followed by a rendition of Elton John’s “Your Song” and “Tiny Dancer,” the latter of which was vocal perfection.
Big Shot honored the late music legend Prince by singing Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” in his honor.
The Verdict
Overall, Big Shot was fantastic at Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall in Wantagh. All of the band members showcased a tremendous amount of talent, and it was the quintessential way to spend a Saturday night on Long Island. They earned an A rating for a job well done.
