Veteran actresses Michelle Clunie and Megan Follows portray pen pals in the new Off-Broadway show “Pen Pals,” which is being performed at DR2 Theatre in New York City.

An award-winning stage, film and television actress, producer and writer, Clunie is known for her acting work in such TV shows as “Queer as Folk” and “Teen Wolf.”

Megan Follows is a Canadian actress who is known for playing protagonist Anne Shirley in “Anne of Green Gables,” as well as “Reign.”

“Pen Pals” was written by Michael Griffo and it was directed by SuzAnne Barabas.

The play is a celebration of the endearing power of friendship and connection through handwritten letters that span nearly 50 years.

In “Pen Pals,” Bernie (Michelle Clunie) and Mags (Megan Follows) live in two different countries (United States and England respectively), they haven’t met in person, but they are best friends through their intimate and sincere letters to one another.

Ever since their teens, they’ve shared every part of their lives together, which include their innermost secrets (first crushes, relationships, and the drama that came in their personal lives, and even medical scares).

The Verdict

Overall, Michelle Clunie and Megan Follows were stunning in the Off-Broadway show “Pen Pals” at DR2 Theatre.

Michelle Clunie was sassy, witty, and alluring as Bernie in a unique interpretation that we hadn’t seen by any of the other actress that previously took on that complex role.

Meghan Follows was equally effervescent as Mags, and she brought rawness and authenticity to the character.

Despite the stormy weather that was taking place outside the venue, they were able to move the audience on an emotional level. As a result, they had the “Big Apple” audience in the palm of their hands.

They were able to make the characters their own, and they were able to humanize them in an honest and compelling manner. Prepare to be blown away. This iteration of “Pen Pals” garnered 4.5 out of 5 stars. Well done.
