Actress Meredith Thomas stars in the new short-form digital comedy series “Aliwood,” which was created by Ali Zahiri.

In “Aliwood,” Thomas portrays talent manager Elle Miller, and she has great o-screen chemistry with lead actor Ali Reza Karimi, who is also the showrunner.

In this role, Thomas is subtle, ballsy, and headstrong, and she delivers a controlled and commanding performance as Elle Miller.

Her acting runs the gamut in this short-form digital series, and she is able to showcase many distinct layers to her character. She can be difficult, abrupt, frank, but also complimentary and sympathetic for Ali.

Unlike most of her dramatic roles (especially on the Lifetime network), there are no tears in this one, and in the limited screen time that she has, Thomas is able to make magic, and after watching “Aliwood,” the audience will certainly remember her.

The Verdict

Overall, Meredith Thomas is Emmy-worthy in “Aliwood.” She is consistently one of the hardest-working actresses in the contemporary film and TV landscape, and she delivers noteworthy work year after year.

“Aliwood” is no exception, and it should be up for “Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama or Variety Series” in its own right.

Thomas deserves to be nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for “Outstanding Performer in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series” for her portrayal of the bold and unflinching Elle Miller.

It feels like watching “Pure Country” all over again, and Meredith Thomas is our Lesley Ann Warren (who played George Strait’s Dusty character’s demanding and overbearing manager Lula Rogers in the 1992 feature film).

“Aliwood” is the feel-good escapism that we all need, and it is evident that Ali Zahiri has created a memorable new short-form series.
