Country star Martina McBride delights in “Martina McBride’s Greatest Hits: The RCA Years” double vinyl LP, which features music from her days in RCA Nashville. Digital Journal has the scoop.
Side A
In “Side A,” McBride takes her listeners on a trip down memory lane. It opens with her first single, the traditional-sounding and upbeat “The Time Has Come,” with Garth Brooks on background vocals, and it is followed by the heart-wrenching ballad “That’s Me,” which displays her crystalline voice.
“My Baby Loves Me” is uptempo and refreshing, and it nearly reached the top of the country charts, peaking at No. 2.
“Independence Day” is her career signature song, which helped validate her in the eyes of her peers in the industry and her fans. While it was never a No. 1 hit single, it has a powerful message to it and showcases her superb storytelling ability and dynamic vocal range.
“Side A” closes with the ballad “Where I Used to Have a Heart,” where she slows down the tempo but then she picks it right back up again for “Life #9,” which is a tune that fans can easily line dance to.
Side B
“Wild Angels,” McBride’s first No. 1 hit single, kicks off Side B on a high note. It is followed by the infectious “Safe in the Arms of Love,” which is one of this journalist’s all-time favorite McBride tunes. The traditional country ballad “Cry On The Shoulder of The Road” is also sheer bliss.
She picks up the pace once again with the enthralling “Happy Girl,” and it immediately breaks into the power-ballad “A Broken Wing,” which tackles the serious subject matter of emotional abuse. Side B closes with yet another gorgeous ballad, “Wrong Again,” which was yet another chart-topping single for McBride.
Side C
Side C of the double vinyl LP kicks off with “Whatever You Say,” where McBride belts the high notes, and it is followed by her multi-week No. 1 single, the bubbly “I Love You.” Equally noteworthy is the powerhouse song “Love’s The Only House,” which will certainly strike a chord with the hearts of her listeners.
“Concrete Angel” is her melancholic ballad about child abuse, which she sings beautifully, while the uplifting “Blessed” is an ode to her joys and blessings in life. Side C closes on a witty note with the uptempo “When God-Fearin’ Women Get The Blues,” which features hilarious and clever lyrics.
Side D
The final side of her double vinyl LP begins with the captivating ballad “Where Would You Be,” which showcases her incredible pipes. Equally fun are the anthemic “This One’s For The Girls” and the harking ballad “How Far.”
“In My Daughter’s Eyes” is a moving ballad that will move any parent, especially those that have daughters; moreover, it is the quintessential father-dance wedding dance tune.
Side D of the vinyl LP closes on an inspirational note with “Anyway,” which is filled with optimism and hope, and with the liberating “Wrong Baby Wrong Baby Wrong,” where she leaves her dedicated fans and listeners wanting to hear more.
The Verdict
Overall, this collection is a must for all fans of Martina McBride and country music. She proves that she is one of the best vocalists in the genre’s history. This double vinyl LP garners an A+ rating.
