Her concert consisted of four acts. She opened her set with songs from The Family Jewels album, which included a neat video on the televised screens as she broke into “Mowgli’s Road,” as she was dressed in a purple outfit. It was followed by “I Am Not a Robot” and the sassy “Oh No!” She closed with “Obsessions” and “Hollywood.”
The second act was perhaps the greatest portion of her live show, especially since it featured such outstanding tunes as “Primadonna” and “How to Be a Heartbreaker,” both of which were sheer perfection, highlighting her ethereal voice.
Her third act featured songs from her Froot album, which Digital Journal described as “amazing.” It included the noteworthy title track, as well as “Savages” and the closing tune “Immortal,” the latter of which was haunting, rich and crisp.
For her encore, she returned to sing “Happy” and “Blue,” where ironically enough, she was dressed in an elegant blue dress. “New York,” she screamed. “Thank you so much. Before I kiss you goodbye, I would love to introduce you to my incredibly talented band,” Marina added, in her eloquent British accent.
The Verdict
Overall, Marina and the Diamonds was sensational at Terminal 5 in New York City. She has the voice of an angel, and her music encompasses elements of electronic and pop music. She had the crowd with her every step of the way. She is a modern-day version of Madonna meets Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine), and that ought to be taken as a major compliment. Marina and her band are worth seeing live whenever they are in the area. Her show garnered an A rating.
