Review: MAKO shines on new electronic album ‘Hourglass’ (Includes first-hand account)

Their CD opens with the euphonious “Let Go Of The Wheel,” which is perhaps the greatest track on the collection, that instantly lures the listener into their musical work. “Do you remember whispering ‘I’m falling hard,’ we were drinking whiskey at your father’s house, you took me by the hand and then we kissed for hours, those were the good days,” Seaver sings, in the opening verse.

It is followed by the laid-back “Real Life” and equally fun is “Smoked Filled Room.” “North Dakota” is hypnotic with heart-warming lyrics. It closes with the second-greatest track on the album, the ambient masterpiece “Our Story,” as well as the haunting “Wish You Back,” where they collaborate with Kwesi, which has a Skrillex and Diplo vibe to it, especially in its hooks.

Their album is available on iTunes.

The Verdict

Overall, MAKO’s new album is one of the best electronic releases of the year. Alex Seaver delights on vocals and piano, while Logan Light shines on drums and programming. It is an absolute gem and a must for any EDM fan. Hourglass garners an A rating.
