It picks up three years after the protagonist, Mike, played by Channing Tatum, left the stripper lifestyle, while being at the top of his game, yet he decides to do one final blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, at a convention. The film begins with him working in his furniture shop, while feeling nostalgic about the spotlight and the friends that he made along the way.
Joe Manganiello was superb as Big Dick Richie, and Matt Bomer triumphed as Ken. While Amber Heard may be a stunning actress, her portrayal of Zoe was mediocre at best.
Tatum showcases some serious dance moves and choreography chops, proving that he gets better with every film he undertakes. It is a pleasant road trip motion picture, where they travel from Florida to South Carolina, and it did not only focus on Mike; moreover, it allowed the other characters and their personalities to shine.
The Verdict
Overall, Magic Mike XXL is an entertaining film with a witty script, and the all-star cast of actors pour a lot of hear into their roles. Channing also served as one of the film’s co-producers, and the script was well-written. Along with his portrayal of Olympic gold medalist and wrestling champion Mark Schultz in the Oscar-nominated Foxcatcher, this is one of Tatum’s best screen performances this year, and it displayed his wide range as an actor. Well done Tatum. The film garners an A rating.
