Review: Loretta Lynn amazing on new studio country album ‘Full Circle’ (Includes first-hand account)

It opens with “Whispering Sea Introduction,” which features her talking voice, and it is followed by the soothing, fiddle-driven ballad “Whispering Sea.” She is instantly able to lure the listener in to this musical effort thanks to her timeless voice.

“Secret Love” is yet another nostalgic country ballad and “Who’s Gonna Miss Me?” is a neat tune about inquiring as to whether or not one will be missed in life when that person is gone. “Black Jack David” is a charming acoustic ballad that Lynn nails, and is able to tell a story while doing so.

“Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven” is the quintessential sing-along tune on this project that will resonate well in her live shows. She does a beautiful job covering Willie Nelson’s signature song “Always On My Mind.”

“Wine Into Water” displays her ability to still hit the high notes, and make it seem effortless. “In the Pines” is another prime cut that is traditional-sounding.

It is followed by “Band of Gold,” which features steel guitar and fiddle, as well as a new version of her smash hit, the feisty “Fist City.”

“I Never Will Marry” is another astounding performance, which showcases Lynn’s crystalline voice. It closes with two duets, including “Everything it Takes,” where she sings with Elvis Costello, as well as “Lay Me Down” with Willie Nelson.

The Verdict

Overall, Loretta Lynn delights on her latest studio effort Full Circle. All of the songs are well-crafted and memorable. It proves that there is only one Loretta Lynn. This album is a must for fans of traditional country music, and it deserves to earn a Grammy nomination for “Best Country Album” at next year’s Grammy award ceremony. It garners 5 out of 5 stars.
