Review: ‘Log Horizon 2’ EP 20 teaches that ‘Heaven & Hell’ are subjective

Episode 20 of Log Horizon 2, titled “Birthday Song,” is currently streaming on Crunchyroll for paid subscribers. Free subscribers can watch the same episode six days from now on February 28th.

I was happy to watch Nyanta spring into action let alone have his rematch against Londark, Demikas’ former second-in-command from the first Log Horizon series, in this episode. I became a fan of Nyanta by his appearance, his chivalrous attitude, and the fact that I have trained in European Fencing.

It was surprised at the reunion, but I felt the rematch is overdue because of the humiliating loss that Brigandia suffered at the hands of Shiroe’s Log Horizon. I was surprised that Londark left Brigandia and aligned with Plant Hwyaden.

Londark apparently did not receive the memo that Elder Tale ceased being a game.

Watching Nyanta show emotion let alone distraught and anger surprised me because he is usually calm and composed in Log Horizon. He is the only Log Horizon member that can keep a cooler head than Shiroe.

The Log Horizon guild would never come into fruition if Shiroe and his group never reunited with Nyanta at all. Nyanta’s show of emotion is a sign that everything is at stake including the lives of the People of the Land.

I love Nyanta’s blunt and subtle replies to Londark’s logic.

Londark’s way of thinking allows him to get taken advantage of and it obviously shows that he is clueless to the changing atmosphere of the game’s world. He fails to see that the game’s mechanics are taking lives of their own.

Instead of trying to adapt, Londark is venting.

Unfortunately for Nyanta, Londark speaks the truth that many players do not like being trapped in a game and that is understandable. It reminded me of the previous episode, where Tohya had a confrontation with the leader of the Odyssey Knights.

Elder Tale is paradise to some players and is a hellish nightmare for the majority of players.

It is apparently the latter for Londark, which shakes Nyanta to his core because he knows that Londark is right.

The game is a sense of paradise for Tohya because he can use his legs again as the previous episode revealed that he is the victim of a car accident. The accident left Tohya a paraplegic for the rest of his life, which prevented him from playing soccer again.

It was hellish for the Odyssey Knights leader because he was supposed to get married soon in the real world.

Apparently Londark got his wish for “death,” which surprised me. I thought it was going to be a prolonged battle between Nyanta and Londark.

Mizufa proves to be a sadistic and cold-hearted b-tch when she justifies “killing” Londark in front of Nyanta.

I had a “holy s—t” moment when I saw the cut on the side of Nyanta’s face. This looked like an actual bloody cut and not like the normal in-game pixel wound players suffer in the game. It is the first time that I have seen an actual player bleed within the game.

Birthday Song” was an emotional intense and action packed episode.

I felt choked up when I saw Londark and the Odyssey Knights leader living what they feel is a hellish nightmare in a “fake world.” I am curious on what Plant Hwyaden’s ultimate plan is for the entire world of Elder Tale.

Watching this episode makes me feel that the casts of Log Horizon and Sword Art Online should have a joint counseling session. I could say that the situation within Log Horizon is just as f—ked as the situation in the first season of Sword Art Online.

This episode ultimately teaches us that Elder Tale can be Heaven or Hell depending on how well you adapt.
