On Sunday, April 30th, children’s music queen Laurie Berkner performed at The Space at Westbury on Long Island, for an excellent turnout of young fans and their families.

Berkner kicked off her set on an upbeat note with “Let’s Go!” and she immediately broke into “When I Woke Up” and the fan-favorite “Victor Vito.”

“I’ve been waiting a long time to sing this song,” Berkner acknowledged and continued with “Waiting for the Elevator,” where she got a lot of audience members engaged in this upbeat tune.

She asked if anybody was interested in “blast off” and went on to perform “Rocketship” for the young explorer fans in the venue.

Equally stunning was “Bumblebee (Buzz Buzz),” which was a true stand-out in the first half of her show.

Berkner shared that it has been 25 years since the release of her debut children’s studio album. It was followed by the lilting “I Saw a Butterfly” and “Chipmunk At The Gas Pump.”

During “Pig on Her Head,” she gave a special shoutout to some of the stuffed animals that the kids brought to the show, which included dinosaurs, racoons, teddy bears, dolphins, dogs and cats, among others.

The inclusion of “My Bunny Goes Hop” was an added bonus, especially since she released it around Easter, and it has already generated almost seven million views on YouTube.

She noted that she has only performed this song a few times live and she needs the audience’s help on this one. Fortunately, for Berkner, the kindie music fans were happy to oblige and help her out.

Berkner praised her audience for being good at jumping and continued with the infectious “I’m Gonna Catch You.”

“If you are having fun at today’s show, make so much noise to let me know,” she said, and the answer was a resounding yes.

She threw many beach balls into the audience during a “Superhero,” which resonated well with everybody in the theater especially since it became a bouncing ball extravaganza.

She immediately broke into “The Goldfish” and “Happy Birthday.” Hearing “Moon Moon Moon” done in an a cappella fashion was a real treat, and she concluded with her signature tune “We Are the Dinosaurs,” which was sheer bliss. “Are you ready to be dinosaurs?” she asked, and the fans started stomping their feet and clapping along with her.

“Thanks for being here, thank you for coming in person,” Berkner expressed, effusively.

For her encore, she returned to do a mashup medley of tunes, which included “One Seed,” “Bubbles,” “Chicken,” “Cat Came Back,” “Letters,” “Umbrella,” and “Fireflies.” ” She closed on a fitting note with “Family” and “Goodnight.”

“I like Laurie. My favorite song is ‘The Goldfish (Let’s Go Swimming)’,” said Marley Cappiello, a young fan and attendee, age five.

The Verdict

Overall, Laurie Berkner’s concert at The Space at Westbury in New York was expressive, interactive, and a great deal of fun. Her vocals were crystalline, expressive, and joyful as ever.

She clearly possesses one of the most soothing voices in the contemporary music, therefore she is made to be performing these children’s classic tunes, and her newer songs that will become standards in the future. Her live show at The Space at Westbury on Long Island garnered an A rating.
