“Kombucha Cure,” starring Emmy winners Tamara Braun and Jennifer Bassey, is a compelling new digital mini-series on Popstar! TV.

This intriguing dark comedy series features two of daytime TV’s finest leading ladies. Bassey is known for her acting work in “All My Children,” and Tamara Braun is known for her acting in such daytime dramas as “Days of Our Lives,” “General Hospital” and “All My Children.”

Tamara Braun stars as Dr. Mara Cohen, a doctor who works for an insurance company [ Doctors Own Health Insurance] who is sent to do a job in a small town.

The first season of “Kombucha Cure” was written by director Cecilia Choi and Michael R. Snell. It was inspired by events from their respective accomplished careers in the medicine field.

Their screenplay is quirky, witty, and clever, and it utilizes satire to display what happens when a small town healthcare system a large insurance company works like a casino where it prioritizes its revenue profits over its patients.

Aside from Jennifer Bassey and Tamara Braun, the ensemble cast of “Kombucha Cure” actors include Denise Boutte, Robert Craighead, Jasper Cole, Yorke Fryer, Ali Zahiri, and Jermel Nakia.

Memorable performances from the whole cast led by the effervescent Tamara Braun gives this mini-series its beating heart, coupled by the social, economic, and science concepts that Choi explores that are timely and relevant, especially at a time when corporations rule the world.

Bassey nails the Hungarian accent in the supporting role of the ailing Hanna Nowacki, who stars opposite Robert Craighead, who plays her on-screen husband John Nowacki. Jasper Cole provides comic relief as Theo, while Denise Boutte is convincing as the nefarious Gabriela.

Ali Zahiri plays Dr. Raman Khadem, a physician who is willing to make sacrifices to ensure the health, safety, as well as the financial well-being of his patients. The initial tension between Zahiri’s character and Mara could be cut with a knife.

The Verdict

“Kombucha Cure” will take its audience on an engaging trip to Small Town, USA where doctors, surgeons, nurses, and their cancer patients have taken on the contemporary yet flawed healthcare insurance industry.

This is an eye-opening experience for our lead female Mara, where her life finds a new meaning and purpose. Kombucha is an ever-present libation in each episode.

With three episodes released this far, “Kombucha Cure” is a refreshing series that makes the viewer eagerly await for Tuesday to watch the next episode. It garners two thumbs up.

“Kombucha Cure” is available to stream on Popstar! TV.
