His album begins with the piano-driven title track ballad “Once Again It’s Christmas,” which features Rogers‘ timeless voice, and it is followed by “There’s a New Kid in Town,” where he collaborates with country duo Winfield’s Locket, which displays their breathy vocals.
“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” is a neat duet with Jennifer Nettles of the Grammy-winning duo Sugarland. His version of “Little Drummer Boy” is noteworthy and captivating. “Back To Bethlehem” is another refreshing and warm vocal by Rogers, while his rendition of “Winter Wonderland” is smooth and fun. Bluegrass songbird Alison Krauss lends her mellifluous voice on the ballad “Some Children See Him,” and their voices produce one true vocal event.
Roger’s version of “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” is equal in excellence to Bing Crobsy’s rendition. A cappella country group Home Free join the country crooner on “Children, Go Where I Send Thee.”
Acclaimed pianist Jim Brickman joins Rogers on the moving ballad “That Silent Night” and it closes with “The Light,” where he is backed by a choir.
The Verdict
Overall, Kenny Rogers delivers on his newest Christmas album, Once Again It’s Christmas. It is recommended for any fans of “The Gambler.” It garners an A rating.
