Review: Kenny Chesney and Pink disappoint on ‘Setting the World on Fire’ (Includes first-hand account)

First and foremost, this song is not country by any means, and it would be more fitting in the adult contemporary and pop formats. Also, the inclusion of Pink on “Setting the World on Fire” does not add much to the recording. It is a very lackluster performance from both artists, both of which are usually at the top of their game, especially in their live concerts. Simply put, “Setting the World on Fire” does not allow both vocalists to shine.

“Setting the World on Fire” is the second single from his forthcoming studio album, Cosmic Hallelujah, which will be released on October 28 via his record label Blue Chair/Columbia Nashville. The song was co-penned by songwriters Ross Copperman, Matt Jenkins and Josh Osborne.

It is a weak follow-up to Chesney’s previous radio single, the equally disappointing “Noise,” which failed to break the Top 5 on both the Billboard Hot Country Airplay and the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.

The Verdict

Overall, the new Kenny Chesney duet “Setting the World on Fire” with Pink garners a D. Had it been classified as a tune in the pop genre, where Pink is featuring Kenny Chesney, the other way around, then it would have gotten a more solid rating.
