Review: Joywave makes Madison Square Garden debut in New York City (Includes first-hand account)

They shared the stage with MisterWives, Walk The Moon and headliners Thirty Seconds to Mars. Joywave opened their set with the infectious “Now,” which was melodically addicting, and instantly lured their listeners (who may or may not have been familiar with their music) in their set. They immediately broke into the mid-tempo “It’s a Trip.”

“Destruction” was more laid-back and nonchalant, while “Somebody New” had a neat groove to it that resonated well with the New York audience. Equally noteworthy was “Doubt,” which featured their crisp vocals, and soaring harmonies. They closed with “Tongues,” which had a retro vibe to it.

Joywave is made up of Joseph Morinelli on guitar, Benjamin Bailey on keyboard, Daniel Armbruster on vocals, and Paul Brenner on drums.

The Verdict

Overall, Joywave was able to rock out their 30 minute set at Madison Square Garden. Their music encompasses elements of pop, indie, alternative, rock and adult contemporary. There is something in it for everybody. The Joywave show at Madison Square Garden garnered 4.5 out of 5 stars.
