Smith, who won the ninth season of the reality singing competition The Voice, co-wrote six out of the album’s 12 tracks. He collaborated with Grammy award-winning hit-maker RedOne, who has worked with global music stars Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj, for the album’s production.
The album opens on a powerhouse note with “Please,” and it is followed by the mid-tempo and sassy “Love Her Better,” and the refreshing and liberating “Box.”
A Kentucky native, Smith displays his wide vocal range on the piano-driven title cut “Only Love.” “End in Love” is an extremely radio-friendly and fun tune, which was written by John Legend.
After the infectious and lyrically stunning “Beauty Lies,” the collection closes with the upbeat “Feel Good” and the piano-driven ballad “Sleeve.”
Only Love is available on iTunes, and on Spotify.
The Verdict
Overall, Jordan Smith’s new album Only Love is highly eclectic and very personal. There is something in it for everybody, and Smith soars on the vocals. RedOne delivered on the production, as always. Only Love garners an A rating.
