Jonathan Groff and his Broadway co-stars performed “Splish Splash” live from New York’s Times Square, which was televised on ABC’s “Good Morning America.
In the Broadway musical “Just in Time,” which is being performed at the Circle in the Square Theatre in Manhattan, Groff portrays Bobby Darin, the legendary singer whose short but remarkable life took him from teen idol to global sensation. The show was developed and directed by Tony Award winner Alex Timbers.
Their live performance of “Splish Splash” on “Good Morning America” was vivacious, enthralling, and thoroughly entertaining. They were able to introduce this classic and catchy hit to a younger generation of fans. Groff captured the late Bobby Darin, his mannerisms and his essence, to the tee.
Groff and his dancers had the audience with them every step of the way (both the in-studio audience and viewers who were tuning in at home). It felt like Groff put the audience into a time warp and brought them back to the late ’60s and early ’70s.
Compliments to choreographer Shannon Lewis for her excellent choreography and the well-rounded job she did in bringing the dancing of this show to life.
The show has been nominated for six Tony Awards, which include a Tony nomination for “Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical” for Jonathan Groff as Bobby Darin.
Hopefully, Jonathan Groff wins back-to-back Tony Awards (he won last year for his superb performance in “Merrily We Roll Along”) because once again, Groff deserves it!
Groff’s acting performance as Bobby Darin in the musical “Just in Time” earned a rave review from Digital Journal, where he was described as “sublime,” and rightfully so.
