Review: Jessie’s Girl plays The Paramount, honors late music legends (Includes first-hand account)

A local Long Island print publication was on the premises at The Paramount, highlighting the 80’s fashion that the fans were wearing for the Jessie’s Girl concert.

Similar to all of their shows, they opened with “Final Countdown” introduction. It was great to hear them sing their power-anthem “Any Way You Want It” by Journey, who ironically enough will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. Mark sang lead on their namesake song “Jessie’s Girl,” and Chris gave a charming performance on Wham!’s “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” which was the song that this journalist requested for the band to perform back at their show at this venue in August.

The Jessie’s Girl band members shared their excitement for performing at the Paramount for a show that was at full capacity.

They invited audience participation for “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” which resonated well with the Paramount audience, but the same can’t be said for the Paramount security officers, especially since all the female fans wanted to go on stage with them to sing and dance along to the Cyndi Lauper upbeat classic. Nevertheless, the performance was still a great deal of fun.

One of the most pleasant surprises was the inclusion of musician Jermone Bell in their set, who was fabulous on Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” and Prince’s “Purple Rain.” The emotion he poured into the vocals and choreography was superb.

In this concert, Jessie’s Girl’s song selection was stronger than ever with such hit singles as Don Henley’s “Boys and Summer” and of course, Eddie Money’s “Take Me Home Tonight.” The prediction was remarkable for “Video Killed the Radio Star,” which is always a treat. They closed on an upbeat note with “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” and Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.” It was a job well done by all band-mates, including Jerome Bell.
