Review: Jeannie Seely honors Dottie West with ‘Here Comes My Baby’ (Includes first-hand account)

Seely sang an enthralling rendition of “Here Comes My Baby” in West’s honor, which was well-received. This was the first song to ever receive a Grammy award for “Best Female Country Vocal Performance” back in 1965, which was the year that the Grammy awards first introduced the country music categories. (The only other person that collected Grammy awards representing the country music genre on that night was Roger Miller).

This performance of “Here Comes My Baby” came a few days after Seely celebrated her 51st year anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. It was very moving and soulful.

Ironically enough, Seely was the third female country recording artist to win a Grammy award for “Best Female Country Vocal Performance,” and she did so with her signature tune “Don’t Touch Me.”

Next month, on October 10, Seely will be hosting the Dottie West Birthday Jam at 3rd and Lindsley in Music City, where this year they will be celebrating Dottie West’s posthumous induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame in the “Veterans Era” category, in addition to the legendary songstress’ birthday.
