The single garnered a favorable review from Digital Journal, but the visually striking music video is in a league of its own!
Filming this video was a difficult task to undertake, especially since Leto tried to capture everything that happens in a single day in America, all across 50 states, as well as Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. This video was filmed on 4th of July, when “Independence Day” is celebrated in America.
This video was comprised of over 10,000 footage that was submitted by people, in addition to the 92 professional crews that were assigned for filming purposes. It depicted scenes of love, pride, faith, adventure, determination, liberty and victory, among others.
Most impressive is the fact that a small portion of that footage was used for the video. The band will show the rest of that footage in their forthcoming documentary film, A Day in the Life of America, which will coincide with their upcoming studio album. That documentary was directed by Jared Leto.
The Verdict
Overall, Jared Leto and Thirty Seconds to Mars have done a superb job on the “Walk on Water” music video. It definitely ranks as one of the band’s best music video since “City of Angels.” It also helps convey to lyrics of the song well. This music video garners an A rating, and deserves a huge round of applause for its vivid cinematography.
