Review: James Wesley honors Merle Haggard with ‘Mama Tried’ (Includes first-hand account)

Wesley sang the upbeat Merle Haggard classic “Mama Tried,” where he showcased his rich, baritone voice, which was nostalgic and his voice was smooth as silk. One thing is for sure, they don’t make country music like this anymore. It doesn’t get any more “real” than Wesley singing A video of Merle Haggard performing the song displayed on the background televised screen, which made it a fitting tribute to the country legend, who was affectionately known as “The Poet of the Common Man.”
