Episode three of Isuca, titled “Confrontation,” is streaming on Crunchyroll for paid members. Free members can watch this same episode six days from now on February 13th.
Shinichiro is adjusting to his new paid job as Sakuya’s personal chef and housekeeper because she is unable to do those things on her own. It certainly shows that people with omnipotent powers tend to slack off on domestic work, but it does work out for Sakuya because Tamako is assisting Shinichiro.
That means Sakuya has two for the price of one.
The trio of Shinichiro, Sakuya, and Tamako are thrust into battle against a vampire tree that has taken one of the female students hostage. I love how it is “business as usual” after Shinichiro and Sakuya have a spat over their new living arrangements.
Things get interesting when Suseri appears and kills the vampire tree to Sakuya’s annoyance and chagrin. She reveals herself to be Sakuya’s cousin even though she calls her “sister.”
Things get heated between Sakuya and Suseri over their differences dealing in specters, with the former preferring to seal them and the latter preferring to destroy them. It reminded me of Bleach when Uryu Ishida was formally introduced.
The confrontation between the two is reminiscent of the differences between the Shinigami and the Quincies, where the former usually sends Hollows to Soul Society and Quincies destroy the soul completely.
Isuca slowly becomes sexed up like The Testament of Sister New Devil as the shower scene reminded me of the latter’s fifth episode, where Yuki invited herself into Basara’s home let alone and bath. Suseri reminds me of Yuki in that sense because she boldly entered the bathroom as Shinichiro is washing himself.
Nadeshiko reminds me of Maria because of her lewd behavior, Suseri reminds me of Yuki because of her taciturn personality, and Sakuya reminds me of Mio for other reasons. I swear that the original writers of both stories were on the same wavelength when they created their respective stories.
My head is screaming for them to have a crossover between Isuca and The Testament of Sister New Devil.
There was a major battle against a “gloom car,” but that wasn’t what made the episode interesting.
I can see that the tension between Sakuya and Suseri go deep as the former is supposed to become the new head of the Shimazu Family, but the latter doesn’t want that to happen. It is obvious that Sakuya has a huge chip on her shoulder and doesn’t want to show weakness.
Part of this episode makes me think of Bleach and another part makes me think of The Testament of Sister New Devil.
