On Wednesday, January 21st, Indigo Girls performed at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on Long Island, for a great turnout.

Indigo Girls, comprised of Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, were supported by the Massapequa Philharmonic, conducted by David Bernard, which helped elevate the show to a higher level.

They kicked off their versatile set with “Howl at the Moon,” which instantly lured their Long Island listeners to their eclectic set, and it was followed by “Power of Two,” where they slowed down the tempo, and “Chickenman.”

The crowd sang along with them on “Kid Fears,” and equally noteworthy was “Galileo.”

After a brief intermission, they returned with the mid-tempo “Damo” and the atmospheric “Wood Song.”

Their execution and delivery of “Ghost” was sheer bliss, where they were able to drench listeners in a wide spectrum of raw emotions with their velvet harmonies.

Their signature tune “Closer to Fine” felt like the theme song of the night, where everybody was reciting the lyrics verbatim. Compliments to the “Barbie” movie, which helped introduce this classic to a younger generation of listeners.

The Verdict

Overall, Indigo Girls put on a captivating live show at the Tilles Center for the Performing Arts in Brookville on Long Island. It is evident that Amy Ray and Emily Saliers are like fine wine where they only get better with age and experience.

Their show ran the gamut, encompassing elements of folk, country, Americana, alternative, indie, pop, rock, and adult contemporary music.

They proved that there were still at the top of their game, musically, and that they belong to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There was a feeling of nostalgia in the venue.

This Tilles Center concert was a neat blend of their standard tunes, as well as newer material from their more recent album “Look Long.”

With the help of the Massapequa Philharmonic, they were able to dust off their timeless songs, twist them, and revitalize them with new refreshing arrangements that were utterly infectious.

It is highly recommended that one sees the Indigo Girls whenever they are in town. They will not be disappointed. Their live show garners two thumbs up. Well done.
