Italian pop operatic trio Il Volo brought their “World Tour” to Radio City Music Hall, where they performed for a great turnout of fans.

The vocal group is comprised of Gianluca Ginoble, Ignazio Boschetto, and Piero Barone. They were backed by a gifted orchestra and a backdrop that was reminiscent of Temple of Concordia in Sicily.

As soon as Il Volo took the stage, they received a tremendous New York welcome. They kicked off their set with a vivacious version of “Now We Are Free” from “Gladiator,” and it was followed by the stirring “Grand Amore” and “Opera.”

They tipped their hat to Brian May and Queen with “Who Wants to Live Forever,” and Ignazio Boschetto displayed his trademark pipes in “Memory” from the musical “Cats.”

Gianluca delighted with “The Music of the Night” from “The Phantom of the Opera” and Piero did Giacomo Puccini justice with “E lucevan le stelle.”

Some of the highlight songs included “Cinema Paradiso (Se),” and after a harking rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence,” they segued into Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.” “Capolavoro” was a powerhouse vocal performance.

The trio interacted well with their Big Apple audience over the course of the evening, and they all loved them in return.

Their special guest Cecille Sordoni was an exceptional duet partner with the three gentlemen, and she delivered in her version of Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel Like a) Natural Woman,” where the listener could recall Jordin Sparks. They picked up the pace with Luciano Pavarotti’s “La donna è mobile.”

Gianluca nailed his “Bridge Over Troubled Water” solo, and the inclusion of ““Libiamo ne’ lieti calici” was sheer bliss because it’s an operatic classic.

Equally noteworthy were “Nessun Dorma” and “…Ad Astra,” the title track of their album, which earned huge standing ovations.

The Verdict

Overall, Il Volo was superb at their headlining show at Radio City Music Hall. There was a feeling of nostalgia and euphoria in this historic New York City venue. There was a lot of musical variety in this concert, where every song had its own identity.

Each singer in the group complimented each other well without upstaging anyone.

It is highly recommended that one sees Il Volo the next time they come to town to perform; they will not be disappointed. Their live set garnered an A rating. Well done.
