Review: Henry Rollins shows you why ‘He Never Died’— Red Band Trailer

*Warning: The following Red Band Trailer is NSFW*

Listed as a horror/drama/comedy, He Never Died stars musician turned actor Henry Rollins in a role he was born for. Rollins plays Jack, an angry introvert who wants nothing to do with the outside world. Staying holed up in his dingy apartment, Jack is visited by Andrea (played by Jordan Todosey), an estranged daughter he never knew existed. Soon, after meeting her, Andrea is abducted and Jack is forced to face his mysteriously twisted past to get her back. Did I mention this is partially a comedy?

This odd bit of noir was written and directed by Jason Krawczyk, who seems to have an eye for off-beat storytelling from the look of the extremely engaging trailer. Bloody violence, dry humor and slick visuals frame a unique plot which evolves into a supernatural revenge tale. A film such as this has cult favorite in its future, if the film is good. And the consensus of early reviews points in that direction.

Known for his aggressive yet logical manner, Henry Rollins plays the role of Jack low-key at first. Brimming to a slow boil, Jack morphs into a powder keg of emotion and violence, making the film walk the fine line of quiet, dramatic storytelling and wall-splattering hard R gore. As fan of Rollins, I am truly excited for this one. The trailer is sharp, unrelenting and fun. Wading into territories that would tickle Tarantino’s funny bone, this genre blending story could be one of the coolest sleeper hits since 2014’s John Wick.

A definite recommend, He Never Died looks fantastic from what I’ve seen so far. But who am I? Give it a watch and be your own critic. I’m just here to help. Enjoy.
