“Guns & Moses” is a new crime thriller that premiered in theaters on July 18th.

This neo-western action film was directed by Salvador “Sal” Litvak and it was written by Nina and Salvador Litvak.

The movie follows Rabbi Mo (Mark Feuerstein), a quiet spiritual leader in the high desert, who is forced into action when a violent assault on his synagogue turns his world upside down.

What unfolds is a modern-day tale of faith, resilience, and the unyielding fight to protect one’s own religious community.

Mark Feuerstein delivers a tour de force performance that is bold, compassionate, and convincing. He layers his emotions well, wrestles with his own moral values, and he has the audience with him every step of the way.

Dermot Mulroney is noteworthy as Alan Rosner while Neal McDonough is a powerhouse as the nefarious Mayor Donovan Kirk.

Christopher Lloyd pulls off a controlled performance as Sol Fassbinder, and he nails the Polish accent (and his monologue). Ed Quinn (“The Oval”) is also impressive as Detective Wallace.

Everybody in the cast is given their own characterization. While the writing is mediocre at best (with many cheesy lines), the rawness, heart and authenticity of this film more than make up for it.

The twists and turns in this mystery will keep the audience engaged (and guessing) for its entire duration.

The Verdict

Overall, “Guns & Moses” is compelling from a political, cultural and social standpoint. It tackles on such sophisticated subject matters as fighting hatred and injustice all while protecting one’s community.

It is very timely and relevant especially in this day and age, and there is something in it for everyone.

“Guns & Moses” garners 4.5 out of 5 stars. Well done.
