Review: Green Day puts high-octane show at Rumsey Playfield in New York (Includes first-hand account)

Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Green Day kicked off the “Summer Concert Series” with their infectious smash hit, “Know Your Enemy.” “Get your hands up in the air,” they screamed.

It was followed by their mid-tempo chart-topping single “Still Breathing” from their No. 1 album Revolution Radio, which was comprised of strong melodies and catchy hooks, and they incorporated it as a crowd singalong.

They continued with their signature tune, the 90’s classic “Basket Case,” where everybody was reciting the lyrics verbatim. “Green Day, Green Day, Green Day,” their fans were chanting.

Green Day had the audience clapping along to their spitfire title track “Revolution Radio,” and “Youngblood,” which is also from their new studio album, was a great deal of fun.

The Verdict

Overall, Green Day’s show at Central Park in New York City was upbeat and high-energy. Despite the early wake-up call for their fans (at 6:30 a.m.), they had the audience with them every step of the way, and they still know how to rock. Their live set garnered an A rating.
