Review: Grand Ole Opry star Jim Ed Brown delights on ‘In Style Again’ CD (Includes first-hand account)

This marks his first album in thirty years, which was released on Plowboy Records, a label that was started by the grandson of the late Eddy Arnold. In this studio effort, he collaborates with such esteemed artists as The Whites and multi-Grammy winner Vince Gill.

It opens with the soothing acoustic ballad “When the Sun Says Hello to the Mountain” and it is followed by the mid-tempo “Tried and True” and the stunning title track ballad “In Style Again,” where his vocals are reminiscent of the late Country Music Hall of Famer Ray Price.

He changes the pace with the laid-back and liberating “Watching the World Walking By” and “You Again” is another top-notch heartfelt, relationship ballad.

“I Love It” is the quintessential song to sing along to due to its neat backing vocals and “Don’t Let Me Cross Over” is a solid duet. “Older Guy” is a witty tune and “It’s a Good Life” is a moving piano-driven ballad that is bound to send the listener chills.

“Lucky Enough” is upbeat and a fresh of fresh air and “Laura (Do You Love Me)” is simply rich and beautiful. The album with another piano-driven song “The Last One” and “Am I Still Country?”

The Verdict

Overall, Jim Ed Brown’s latest studio album In Style Again garners 4 out of 5 stars. It is great to have new music out from this country veteran star.
