Pop singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams was recognized by the Songwriters Hall of Fame; the induction ceremony took place at the Marriott Marquis Times Square in New York City on Thursday, June 12th.

A two-time Grammy nominee, Gracie Abrams was this year’s recipient of the “Hal David Starlight Award.”
This award is bestowed upon young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music and entertainment business with their original songs.
Aaron Dessner makes the introductory remarks about Gracie Abrams
Aaron Dessner of the rock group The National presented Abrams with the award. In his introductory speech, Dessner proclaimed Abrams as “one of the greatest songwriters and musicians in the world today,” and rightfully so.
Dessner subsequently praised her as “one of the most gifted lyricists and melodic songwriters” he has ever met.
Gracie Abrams performs ‘Free Now’
Following her “Hal David Starlight Award,” Abrams performed a stirring rendition of “Free Now,” which allowed her crisp, crystalline vocals to shine. The listener can recall Taylor Swift meets Lana Del Rey. Abrams was all heart and soul, and she proved to be one true song stylist.
The Songwriters Hall of Fame audience was moved by Abrams’ poignant vocal performance and resonant interpretation, where she was not afraid to be raw and vulnerable.
