As Brooks took the stage, his presence was met with a raucous applause, as if the crowd was in the presence of royalty. The country crooner began his show with “Rodeo” and it was followed by “Two Piña Coladas,” “That Summer” and “You Move Me,” as he interacted well with his fans.
The highlight song from the first half of his set was his empowering single and optimistic tune, “The River,” where he accompanied himself on acoustic guitar, and everybody was reciting the lyrics verbatim to him, and clapping along towards the end. “That’s beautiful,” he said, midway through the song.
He continued with the liberating “We Shall Be Free,” as well as “Night Moves” and an electrifying performance of “The Thunder Rolls.” He was able to tug at the heart with the moving ballad, “Unanswered Prayers.”
It was great to see him collaborate with his wife, country songstress Trisha Yearwood, on their Grammy-winning duet “In Another’s Eyes.” “Ladies and gentlemen, Trisha Yearwood,” Brooks shouted, praising his wife, and she continued by paying homage to Linda Ronstadt with a rocking version of the Everly Brothers classic “When Will I Be Loved.”
She displayed her tremendous lung power on “How Do I Live,” and equally powerful was her autobiographical ballad “Georgia Rain.” No Trisha Yearwood set is complete without her breakthrough signature hit “She’s in Love With the Boy,” which she absolutely nailed, and had the audience clap along with her. Brooks showcased his love to Yearwood by kissing her and declaring her “incomparable.”
Brooks delivered a soaring rendition of “Shameless” and he stole the show with his powerhouse performance of the catchy “Callin’ Baton Rouge.” She was able to throw a stadium party with “Friends In Low Places” and closed with “The Dance,” which garnered him a lengthy standing ovation. For his encore, he returned for several additional songs, as well as an impressive cover of Billy Joel’s “Piano Man.”
