Episode 18 of GARO: The Animation, titled “Scar Flame,” is currently streaming on FUNimation and Hulu for paid members. Free members can watch this same episode seven days from now on February 20th.
Life and God really want to f—k Leon Luis over in this episode.
Leon had learned that there was more to life than being the Golden Knight and seeking vengeance, which he found a sense of belonging and a “true family.” That all went away when a Horror attacked the house.
His “new family” would have survived if they retreated to the Makai portal, but chose to save their crops.
Leon had finally found someone only to lose her to the same Horror, which gives cause for concern because he can be blinded by revenge again. That was the one factor that allowed Leon to fall into Mendoza’s trap and to into a berserk rage that scorched most of the city.
If Leon needed a reason to be consumed by hatred and revenge, Lara’s death does a fine job as the trigger.
I was under the impression that Leon would have to find a new suit of armor to wear, but was surprised that he asked Alfonso to allow him to use the Golden Armor again. I almost shed a tear at the emotional battle between the two cousins, which is necessary to see if Leon’s worthy being the Golden Armor’s owners.
This is perhaps the most emotional battle in the series.
I was wondering when Leon and Alfonso would fight with each other.
The big bomb happens near the end as Herman reveals himself to Leon at the end and says that he has been ordered by the Watchdog Tower to assist Mendoza. I have a feeling something dark is going to brew because Herman was ordered to help Mendoza with something.
It feels like someone took a p—s in a hot cup of coffee before throwing it on Leon and Alfonso’s faces.
Leon finally matured and purged the darkness to learn that his father is ordered to side with the enemy.
I suspect Garm will betray the Makai Knights in the future, which served to be true in the first live-action series.
