Review: Gareth Emery masterful at New York City’s Terminal 5 (Includes first-hand account)

Esteemed dance vocalist Emma Hewitt served as his special musical guest, and she was able to deliver, and Emery praised her for putting on an “amazing” performance.

He began his show in an ambient fashion, which included such tracks as Wish I Was’ “Cutting Ties,” featuring Cameron Walker, and he had his fans clapping their hands up in the air, and they were in a state of trance, thanks to his captivating music.

“How are you feeling New York?” he asked. “Make some noise. Put your hands up.”

Three of his highlight track of the evening were “Dynamite,” his collaboration with Christina Novelli, as well as “U” with Bo Bruce, and his signature song “Concrete Angel.” “Soldier,” his collaboration with his sister, Roxanne Emery, was equally remarkable, and emerged as a crowd favorite.

He also played such well-known hits as Coldplay’s “Sky Full of Stars,” “Summertime Sadness” and John Legend’s “All of Me,” among countless others.

The Verdict

Overall, Gareth Emery’s show at Terminal 5 was simply divine for a Saturday night. Most impressive about Emery is that he did not do much talking, rather he allowed his music to speak for itself. Emery was able to take his fans and listeners on a true musical journey during this “Electric for Life” tour stop. This live concert is a substantial indication that Emery was snubbed for this year’s DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs poll. For anybody who disagrees, all they need to see is a highlight reel of his “Electric for Life” show at Terminal 5. He earned 5 out of 5 stars, as well as his fans’ respect and appreciation, which is the greatest reward for the dance music industry.
