Actors Francois Arnaud (“Heated Rivalry“) and Alex Sarrigeorgiou star in the movie “In Transit,” which was directed by Jaclyn Bethany, the showrunner of the Emmy award-winning digital drama series “The Rehearsal.”

A Greek-Romanian actress and filmmaker, Alex Sarrigeorgiou also wrote the screenplay, so she had dual roles as performer and screenwriter.

The synopsis is: In a small town in Maine, Lucy (Alex Sarrigeorgiou) tends bar at the local dive where she’s worked for years, content in the rhythms of her quiet life with her longtime boyfriend, Tom (Francois Arnaud).

When Ilse (Jennifer Ehle), a mysterious older artist adrift in her own life, asks Lucy to model for her, each woman stirs in the other the possibility of a different kind of meaning.

Just as Lucy learns the bar is being sold and the life she’s built may be slipping away, she has to reckon with what she truly wants.

In addition, the movie is rich in symbolism, especially if one pays close attention.

The Verdict

Overall, “In Transit” is a compelling film by Jaclyn Bethany. While it is not a love story per se, there are elements of sexual exploration in it. This female-driven narrative will certainly keep the audience intrigued as it explores the human condition.

Francois Arnaud delivers a controlled and subtle performance as Tom, and he works well opposite an appealing Alex Sarrigeorgiou as Lucy. They have an interesting dynamic together, but the moment Lucy meet Isle, their chemistry is instantaneous and magical. As a result, Jennifer Ehle is a revelation as Ilse.

Jacyln Bethany should be commended for her solid direction in bringing this story to life. Sarrigeorgiou’s script is rich and resonant in characterization.

“In Transit” pushes the envelope, and it will certainly spark conversations among viewers. It garners 4.5 out of 5 stars. Well done.
