Review: Evanescence puts on captivating show at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn (Includes first-hand account)

The entire concert had a polished orchestral arrangement to it, which worked really well for the entire group.

They opened their set with a few classic covers as “Moonlight Sonata,” “Pavane,” Beethoven’s “Adagio Cantabile,” and Mozart’s “Lacrimosa,” where they were able to fuse classical music with their rock influences, and the end result was a sonic masterpiece.

It was a great way to premiere the new songs from their latest Synthesis album, that was released yesterday, for their New York audience, all of which had remarkable electronic and orchestral arrangements to them. “Overture” was written solely by Lee, and “The End of the Dream” was memorable and haunting.

“My Heart Is Broken” was sung with soul and conviction, where the audience was able to believe every word she was saying. “Lithium,” where she played the piano, was stunning and melodically charming, thus filled with raw emotions.

Her version of “Bring Me to Life” was expressive and powerful, where she was able to blow the roof off the King’s Theater, which earned them a lengthy standing ovation.

After “Unraveling,” they continued with a refreshing version of “Imaginary” from their Fallen debut album, as well as “Secret Door,” which was pure bliss.

Other noteworthy performances included “Hi-Lo,” “Lost in Paradise” and “Your Star,” where the band proved to be at the top of their game musically.

“This song has meaning for me now because of you about us, so this is for you,” Lee told the audience, prior to singing “My Immortal,” where her gorgeous voice was too good to be mortal. The control of her voice was extraordinary, and the same was true for her closing numbers “The In-Between” and “Imperfection.”

The Verdict

Overall, Evanescence were incredible at the exquisite Kings Theatre in Brooklyn. This show was warm, up-close and intimate, where the band was able to form a strong connection with their listening audience. Amy Lee could sing the phone book and it would sound awesome. Their live show at Kings Theatre garnered an A rating.

Their new album Synthesis is available on iTunes.
