Emmy award-winning actors Eric Martsolf (“Days of Our Lives”) and Eva LaRue (“The Young and The Restless” and “General Hospital”) star in the short film “Insane.”
The synopsis is: A brilliant scientist on the cusp of finalizing a vaccine that could save millions awakens to find himself in a mental institution where’s he told the seemingly perfect life he thought he knew is all part of his psychosis.
When presented with evidence of his disorder, his mind spins out of control. Could this all be some elaborate conspiracy, or is he in fact…Insane.
“Insane” was directed by Sonia Blangiardo-Goins, who co-wrote the screenplay with Brandon Goins; moreover, it was produced by The Usual BS Productions.

Eric Martsolf is commanding as protagonist Conrad Robertson, who layers his emotions well and his acting runs the gamut. Eva LaRue is a revelation as Dr. Maya Rivera, while Emmy nominee Paul Telfer plays the needle-driven orderly Fred.
Brandon Goins, who co-penned the script, also plays Jackson Whitley. He excels with its captivating screenplay while Sonia Blangiardo-Goins did a terrific job directing the cast and bringing the story to life, which is filled with some twists and turns that nobody sees coming.
Gilles Marini makes a cameo as the nefarious Peter Block. Tiffany Smith is memorable as Mackenzie, while young actress Elin Correa is adorable as Avery.
“Insane” won “Best Short Film” at the 2023 Milan International Film Fest, and Sonia Blangiardo-Goins won for “Best Director” at the 2024 Edinburgh International Film Fest.
Most recently, it won the “Audience Favorite” Award at the Burbank International Film Festival.
The Verdict
Overall, “Insane” is a compelling short from start to finish, and at times, it will make people question their own sanities, and what to believe.
It will certainly spark conversations among viewers, and its subject matter is timely and relevant, especially in this digital age that we are living in today.
The actors deliver riveting performances that will certainly move the audience on an emotional level. It garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
