Review: Emmylou Harris and Ricky Skaggs delight at Nashville fundraiser (Includes first-hand account)

This fundraiser was held at the Musicians Hall of Fame, where they honored famed producer Brian Ahern. The Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum is located in the Historic Municipal Auditorium in Nashville.

Emmylou Harris performed along with famed musicians Albert Lee, Glen Dee Hardin, John Ware, Ricky Skaggs, Sharon White, Cheryl White, Fayssoux McLean, and Jerry Douglas (of Alison Krauss and Union Station). These acclaimed musicians treated the Nashville audience to an intimate performances, as well as their personal stories of working with Ahern.

This benefit concert, which featured an all-star group of musicians, raised funds for the restoration of Ahern’s Enactron trailer, which is a mobile recording studio housed at the museum that Ahern originally designed and built in 1972. Most impressive about his trailer was that it was one of the first mobile recording studios used to record projects on location.

Emmylou Harris praised Brian Ahern for his musical work. “With Brian, it’s all about the music and guiding the artist on their quest to find their own personal sound and vision,” the songstress said, prior to complimenting him on teaching her to trust her own instincts.

“Brian made me a better singer and successful performer because I had the strength of those records we made together always at my back,” she added.

Several of the intimate and hauntingly beautiful songs that were performed that evening included “Wayfaring Stranger,” “If I Be Lifted Up,” and “If I Could Only Win Your Love.”
