Emily Bett Rickards (“Arrow”) stars in the new movie “Queen of the Ring,” which will be released to theaters this Friday, March 7th.
The synopsis is: In a time when professional wrestling for women was illegal all over the country, a small town single mother Mildred Burke (Emily Bett Rickards) embraces the danger to change culture as she dominates America’s most masculine sport to become the first million dollar female athlete in history.
The all-star cast also features Josh Lucas, Tyler Posey, Walton Goggins, Francesca Eastwood, Marie Avgeropoulos, Gavin Casalegno, and Martin Kove (“Cobra Kai”), where everybody brings something distinct and special to this high-adrenaline story.
The film was directed by Ash Avildsen, who also wrote the screenplay. The movie is based on the book of the same name by Jeff Leen, and the true life story of Mildred Burke, which makes it that much even more compelling.
Rickard’s affecting rapport with her onscreen son Joe Jr. (played by Gavin Casalegno) allows for more resonance; moreover, Casalegno is the voice of reason in this film, and Mildred’s biggest quarterback.
Tyler Posey is impressive as G. Bill Wolfe, and the audience gets to see and explore his rocky relationship with his on-screen father, the nefarious Billy Wolfe (played by Josh Lucas).
Its multiple twists and turns will keep the audience at the edge of their seats. Francesca Eastwood is noteworthy as Mae Young, while Marie Avgeropoulos is remarkable as Elvira Snodgrass. The same holds true for Kelli Berglund as Nell Stewart. Damaris Lewis is an inspiration with her motivational speech as Babs Wingo.
