Review: Ed Sheeran plays hit after hit at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey (Includes first-hand account)

Sheeran played at this sports stadium for an excellent turnout of fans. The world renowned musician kicked off his set with the infectious, “Castle on the Hill,” which happens to be this journalist’s personal Ed Sheeran favorite tune.

The British pop singer-songwriter immediately broke into “Eraser” and “The A Team,” the latter of which featured Sheeran’s controlled soothing vocals.

Other noteworthy tunes included “Bloodstream,” “Happier” and “Galway Girl.” He incorporated Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” as a medley with “I See Fire,” which was sheer perfection. Simone, who was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, would have been proud of this enthralling rendition.

It was followed by the powerhouse songs of the night such as his Grammy-winning “Thinking Out Loud,” “Photograph,” and the gorgeous love ballad “Perfect.” Sheeran closed his set with “Nancy Mulligan” and “Sing,” where he left his listeners yearning for more.

For his encore, Sheeran returned to the stage to perform his Grammy-winning hit, the ubiquitous “Shape of You” and “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You,” which was off his debut studio album.

Particularly impressive about this tour is that he performed all of these hit songs solo, without a band and dancers, thus allowing the music to speak for itself.

Overall, Ed Sheeran put on a marvelous live show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which was well-received by all. He is recommending to see in concert whenever he comes to town.
