Review: Don Henley and Martina McBride superb on ‘That Old Flame’ duet (Includes first-hand account)

Henley and McBride’s vocals on the tune are soaring, impressive and crisp. They sing the different verses solo, and they harmonize well on the chorus. It is a track from Henley’s forthcoming country solo studio album, Cass County, which will be released in September of 2015.

“Is it really me you miss or just your long-lost youth, You can get burnt tryin’ to rekindle that old flame,” they sing, in the chorus of “That Old Flame,” which features a killer electric guitar solo.

The Verdict

Overall, Don Henley and Martina McBride are sensational on “That Old Flame” duet. Their vocals blend well together and they produce a magical collaboration. Even after all of these decades, Henley’s voice has stayed rich and timeless. Do not be surprised if it is nominated for a “Vocal Event of the Year” at a future Academy of Country Music (ACM) or Country Music Association (CMA) or even Grammy award ceremony. It garners an A rating.
