“Ladies and gentlemen. Now, Disco Unlimited,” DJ Johnny Iovino said, after he completed his first DJ set at Mulcahy’s, thus opening for the group.
They opened their show with “Boogie Wonderland” and it was followed by “Shake Your Groove Thing” and “Shame.” “It’s a good night to be here Mulcahy’s,” Sista Soul said, prior to noting that there was a little rain.
Disco Unlimited immediately continued with “Don’t You Want My Love” and “Get Up and Boogie,” where Boogie Sista sang lead vocals. They took their fans on a trip down memory lane to 1978 with “Ain’t That Enough for You,” prior to singing “Love and Desire,” which was a collaboration between Boogie Sista and Joe Cool on vocals.
Their version of “Don’t Leave Me This Way” by Thelma Houston was perhaps the fan-favorite song from the first part of their show, which was met with a raucous response from the Mulcahy’s audience, as they were jumping and hopping during the chorus. Equally upbeat and fun was ABBA’s “Dancing Queen.”
Other noteworthy tunes included “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now,” the sultry “Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel,” “Brick House,” Donna Summer’s “Dim All the Lights” and “Bad Girls.”
The Verdict
Overall, Disco Unlimited always knows how to perform and put on an entertaining disco show. It is nostalgic and fun. DJ Johnny Iovino delivered in the DJ booth. Their live concert garners an A rating.
