On July 16, acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Delta Goodrem performed at Jones Beach, where she opened up for the Backstreet Boys as part of their “DNA World Tour.”

Goodrem greeted the Long Island audience and noted that it was “good to be here at Jones Beach.” “We are huge Backstreet Boys fans,” she said. “My name is Delta Goodrem and I am here to get the party started. Are you ready?” she exclaimed.

She kicked off her set on a positive note with the uptempo “The Power,” a true anthem of empowerment. “Put your hands up in the air,” she said midway through the song, which displayed her incredible vocal range.

“Thank you so much,” she said, effusively, and sat on her piano to perform the stirring ballad “Lost Without You.” She inquired where her ladies were in the house, and went on to belt out “Billionaire.” “Thank you so much. That was very kind of you,” she said about the warm reception.

“We are so grateful to be here. We are very thankful to the Backstreet Boys for having us,” she said. “We are thankful for your time today.”

Accompanying herself on piano, she delivered an enthralling version of “In This Life,” and she immediately broke into “Solid Gold,” where she played the tambourine and had everybody do the wave with her.

She sat down and belted out a superb rendition of Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill,” which would have made the iconic British songbird Kate Bush proud. Her energy level during this tune was infectious.

The ever-optimistic “Survivor” was filled with raw emotions and it really tugged at the heartstrings. “Sitting on Top of the World” was a breath of fresh Long Island air. She had the audience in the palm of her hands clapping along with her.

“So are we getting ready for the big night today?” she asked, inquiring about the audience’s excitement for the Backstreet Boys. She went on to tip her hat to the late Whitney Houston with “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” where everybody was singing along with her.

Equally marvelous was her band performing Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ on a Prayer” and Delta harmonizing with them, as well as the songstress having fun with Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!”

“Thank you so much…. we have one last song, this one is called ‘Wings’,” she said and ended on a high note with that powerhouse tune.

The Verdict

Overall, Delta Goodrem dazzled at Jones Beach on Long Island, New York. Her crystalline vocals were simply too good to be mortal. She exuded a great deal of charm and charisma. Her live set earned five out of five stars.

Hopefully, this is a harbinger that Goodrem will be headling Jones Beach one day in her own right. She definitely deserves this honor because musically, she is one of the most underrated female recording artists in the world.
