This show was in honor of acclaimed singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette by a cast of Broadway stars, including David Cook. It featured neat arrangements of Morissette’s biggest hits, as the singers were accompanied by an orchestra that played original orchestrations of Morissette’s music.
Cook was the first entertainer of the night singing her classic hit single “Hand in My Pocket,” from her Grammy-winning Jagged Little Pill album. Cook made this song his own, with a distinct arrangement. His velvet vocals were controlled, captivating, and sheer brilliant. He even treated his fans and listeners to harmonica playing towards the end of the song. Cook truly kicked off this tribute show on a high note. Morissette herself would have been beaming with pride, as a songwriter, over Cook’s bold rendition of her perennial tune.
Aside from Cook, other Broadway performers paying tribute to Morissette included Alex Boniello, Lauren Patten, Ben Thompson, Krystina Alabado, Crystal Monee Hall, Corey Mach, Jillian Mueller, Laurissa Romain, Joey Taranto, Stephanie Jean Umoh, Diana DeGarmo and Ace Young, among others. It truly was a special night for all.
Cook stars as Charlie Price in the Tony award-winning Broadway musical Kinky Boots until September 9, 2018.
