Review: David Allen Buckner tips his hat to George Jones with ‘Choices’ (Includes first-hand account)

Buckner has covered the George Jones classic country hit, “Choices,” and he did the song justice. It was just Buckner and his acoustic guitar, and a wide range of emotions that were conveyed throughout that impressive performance. He was able to display his sincere storytelling ability, and he sang the moving lyrics with conviction.

It is evident that any song Buckner covers, whether it is a live performance or an acoustic rendition in his house, he is able to make that tune his own.

The Verdict

Overall, David Allen Buckner is a breath of fresh air, especially in a genre that has been diluted these days with “bro-country” and lackluster material on the radio airwaves, Buckner is able to keep it real and traditional. More modern country artists ought to follow Buckner’s precedent and cover more of the country classics at their shows. This rendition is a fitting tribute to the late country king George Jones. His version of “Choices” garners two thumbs up. Bravo!
