Review: ‘Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!’ EP 11 centers on curry power

Episode 11 of Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE!, titled “The Trial Called Love,” is currently streaming on FUNimation and Crunchyroll for paid subscribers. Free members can watch the same episode six days from now on March 24th.

It was funny that the Earth Defense Club is on the fence on what to do for the Binan Academy school festival, but I laughed when they ignored the fact that Mr. Tawarayama’s body is currently being placed in cold storage for Wombat to use later.

I find it unnerving and creepy, but in a hilarious way, that the Earth Defense Club members are nonchalant about the way Wombat is treating Mr. Tawarayama’s body.

Atsushi is the odd person out, who has to make the curry when the rest of the club members decide to serve it. I have always wondered why curry is a popular dish in Japan.

The next scene was interesting because the Conquest Club coincidentally talks about curry. I am glad someone pointed out the lack of rationale with curry. I laughed when Kinshiro got melodramatic about curry by saying that civilized humans should not be eating the stuff in the first place.

I was surprised that Thunder is friends with the Binan High Press Society’s pet goldfish, Hireashi, who gives him advice. The thought of Thunder and Hireashi being “buddies” made me laugh a bit because the former is always vindictive about controlling Earth.

The Earth Defense Club comes up with the idea of having a cosplay cafe that serves curry, which I found funny because it’s not original. I do find the humor because they decided to “whore” themselves by appearing in uniform as a means of “paying tribute.”

I had to laugh when Atsushi was making the curry, which confirms that the newly discovered door in the Earth Defense Club room is connected to the Student Council office.

Watching Kinshiro transform when Atsushi offered curry was a hilarious sight.

Man… Kinshiro is passionate about his hate for curry to the point that he transformed right in front of Atsushi. I was surprised, but wowed that the talk about curry led to an epic battle between Atsushi and Kinshiro.

I laughed harder when the Earth Defense Club and Conquest Club members learned each other’s identities, but I laughed harder when Io nonchalantly worries about the profits made by their cosplay cafe.

The fight ultimately reveals Kinshiro’s hate for curry extends to his hate towards Atsushi, who “rejected” him when they were in middle school. It turned out that Kinshiro invited Atsushi to come over, but was refused because the latter was going out for curry.

I guess the hate extends to Yufuin because he went with Atsushi that day to get curry, too. It was funny that the hatred stemmed from curry, which Io decides to defend with his life.

This is perhaps one of the most entertaining episodes of Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! I know curry is a staple dish in Japan, but this really takes the cake.
