It was co-produced by her daughter, Patsy Lynn Russell and John Carter Cash. All of the songs were either written or co-penned by Loretta Lynn herself.
The album opens with the bold title track ballad “Wouldn’t It Be Great.” She picks up the pace with the piano-driven “Ruby’s Stool” and it is followed by the moving, melancholic tune “I’m Dying For Someone To Live For.”
Other noteworthy cuts that are worth more than just a listen include the unflinching “God Makes No Mistakes,” the sultry ”
These Ole Blues,” featuring her harking voice, and of course, a fresh version of her sassy hit “Don’t Come Home a Drinkin’.”
After “Lulie Vars,” the album closes with a new version of her song “Darkest Day,” as well as her signature tune, the autobiographical “Coal Miner’s Daughter.”
Wouldn’t It Be Great is available on iTunes.
The Verdict
Overall, Loretta Lynn is back stronger than ever with Wouldn’t It Be Great. All 13 songs are distinct and polished in their own special way. She proves that the country throne is still hers after 58 years in the music industry. One thing is for sure: there is only one Loretta Lynn. This album garners an A rating.
