Review: Colton Dixon fantastic on ‘The Calm Before the Storm’ album (Includes first-hand account)

It was released on September 11 via Sparrow Records and Capitol Christian Music Group. Dixon’s voice is crystalline on the opening track “Limitless,” which instantly lures the listener into this musical project. It is followed by the crisp acoustic ballad “Never Gone” and he collaborates with his sister, the ever-talented Schyler Dixon on “You Are.”

The Neon Feather remix of “Echo” is an added bonus to this album, since it showcases Dixon’s versatility as a recording artist. “Back To Life” is another noteworthy song, which contains elements of electronic music. His CD closes with “Dare to Believe” and “Anchor,” the latter of which uses neat analogies of sea and lightning.

The Verdict

Overall, Colton Dixon’s new studio album The Calm Before The Storm is superb. He manages to make a very strong connection with his fans and listeners, and his vocals are warm and soothing. The only downside is that it only has 10 songs on there, otherwise it is a top-notch Christian music album. It garners 4.5 out of 5 stars.
